Charles D. Giron Obituary
Charles Dennis "Denny" Giron, 73, of Biddle, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours Monday, June 11, 2018, held by his sons, his wife and in the presence of two loyal dogs after a long and determined battle with cancer, one that he fought completely without self-pity and one during which he also enjoyed many moments of love, joy and grace. He was born August 2, 1944, a son of the late Charles J. Giron, who he was preceded in death by, as well as by his mother, Roxie Giron, to whom he was deeply devoted to in life. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James K. Giron, with whom is he undoubtedly already having some great laughs. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn, his loyal and loving sons, Craig and Chad; his daughter-in-law, Aaryn Kopp Giron; his baby granddaughter, Blythe Riley Giron who, in their short time together, he was completely delighted by, and his dog, Gracie; his sister, Roxanne Kimmel, of Greensburg; his sister, Cindy Poli, of Tempe, Ariz. He is also survived by nephews, Brian and Matthew Poli, and cherished goddaughter, Kay O'Brien; also by two godchildren, Timothy and Tina Matovich. Denny retired in 2015 after working as a manager for Fluor Corporation, which honored him for 38 years of excellent service. He was a tireless and tenacious worker, whether for Fluor, on home improvement projects or as a hobby restoring classic cars. He won multiple awards for his restoration of a 1948 Chevrolet, including Best Street Rod from the Irwin Business & Professional Association. Denny was a member of the Jeannette Masonic Lodge, Westmoreland City Polish Club, a longtime member of the Serbian Club in Biddle and a member of the Manor Centre County Club where he, his sons and friends enjoyed many memorable trips filled with laughter, fun and good food. For more than 40 years, he was the unofficial mayor of Biddle, deeply respected by his neighbors, who often sought his counsel or simply stopped by to enjoy his company and warm hospitality. This tradition continued when he and his wife, Marilyn, recently moved a short distance away to Kelsey Court, in Irwin, where they were embraced by and enjoyed the company of a new set of neighbors and friends. His son, Chad, would often observe him reading the obituaries and ask him why. Denny would joke, "To make sure my name's not in it." Well, Dad, if you're reading this, I'm sorry, today is your day. I hope this makes you smile. You are loved by many and will be missed incredibly by all. The family would like to thank his devoted and skilled nurses from Excela, Chrissy, Becky and Chris, and his compassionate caregivers, Brittney, Margie and Angel.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to local pet adoption shelters, such as the Humane Society of Westmoreland County, PO Box 1552, Route 119 N., Greensburg, PA 15601, or the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association at www.cmtausa.org.
