Lawrence J. Oliver Obituary
Lawrence "Larry" J. Oliver, 95, of Monroeville, died peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2018. Regarded as the "Greatest Generation," Larry served his country in the Army during World War II, where he played in the Timberwoods. He was also a professional musician who played in Big Bands. He was skilled in playing the flute, saxophone and clarinet. Larry also played for a private audience for the late Pope John Paul II. Among Larry's other accomplishments was a private pilot and his beloved daughters and grandchildren. Larry is survived by daughters, Lorraine Stephens, Canice "Candy" Sambol and Patti Masterson. He was the special grandfather of Sonya Boyd and Ashley Quail and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in passing by his wife, Margaret Jean (Kudravy) Oliver, and siblings.
Friends welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME, 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, 412-824-4332. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Bernadette Church, Monroeville, with Father Anthony Gargotta officiating. Larry will be laid to rest with his wife in New St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors.
