Richard E. Williams Jr. Obituary
Richard (Rick) E. Williams Jr., 57, died suddenly, at his home Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017. Rick was born Oct. 18, 1960, in Kalamazoo, Mich., and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. A 1979 graduate of Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, Md., Rick attended the University of Maryland. Serving 12 years in the Air Force, stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska and Andrews AFB, Maryland, receiving USAF Commendation Medal, USAF Achievement Medal, USAF Outstanding Unit Medal and Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon in support of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Rick spent his employed time after the Air Force at Applied Ordnance Technology (AOT) in Maryland, followed by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), in Johnstown, and the past few years at Laird Technologies, in Akron, Ohio, as their quality manager. The position that brought him to Johnstown made it possible to meet his wife, Linda, and they settled in Sidman, Pa. to successfully raise two boys together. Rick found his home in the hills of Pennsylvania comfortable where he quickly settled into the slower pace of country living. Easy going and positive, Rick never complained about his health issues. Rick was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan and a true NFL fan. He also enjoyed his banjo and SRV Stratocaster and especially liked spending quality time with his brothers. Rick listened to many styles of music over his life span, he was very diverse in all that is music. He was currently reliving his collection of Grateful Dead concerts. Family, including his kitties, Sammy and Shadow, were among his greatest treasures. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda (McGucken); and two sons, Sean, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Ben Ressler, of Johnstown; two brothers, Michael, and wife Kathleen, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Christopher, and Barbara Morrisson, of Annapolis, Md.; two nieces, Jamie and Elizabeth; and one nephew, Colin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. On Linda's side, he is survived by father-in-law, Louis McGucken, whom he lovingly called Gramps; also, Linda's sisters and their husbands, Sharon and Steve Backof, Donna Wyar and Marcia and Robert Ramirez; and brother, Pete and loving companion, Carrie Ellis; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Desiree, Steve Jr., Brian, Stephanie, Dustin and Daniel, and their families. Rick was welcomed into Linda's family with open arms and he will be greatly missed by them and by his brothers and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Hawley Williams and Richard Evan Williams Sr.; grandparents, Edison and Evelyn Hawley, of Watertown, N.Y. and George and Helen Williams, of Watertown, N.Y.
Friends were received Saturday, Dec. 16, at Henderson Funeral Home, Central Ave location, Johnstown, followed with a veteran memorial service. Arrangements made by the FINDLAY C. WYLIE FUNERAL HOME INC.
