Peter J. Zikos

Peter J. Zikos, 75, of Peters, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2006, in UPMC Presbyterian of an apparent heart attack. He was born May 28, 1931, in Pittsburgh to John and Stella Katsafanas Zikos, graduated from Peabody High School and Duquesne University, served in the Army military police in Germany and owned and operated the Peter J. Zikos Insurance Agency since 1962. Mr. Zikos was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg; St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Oakland; Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, North Side, and Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, East Pittsburgh. He was treasurer of the Greek Orthodox Pittsburgh Diocese for 47 years, an archon of St. Andrews, a council member of the Archdiocese of New York and commander of archons of the Pittsburgh Diocese and AHEPA Chapter 156, Canonsburg. Mr. Zikos supported Carnegie Museum and Library, the Ronald Reagan Museum, the Animal Rescue League, Leadership 100 in Florida, St. Basil Academy of Boston and St. Photios in Florida. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Kokalis Zikos, and brothers, Nick Zikos, of Texas, and Michael Zikos, of Scott. Visitation from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 until 11 a.m. services Monday in All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Road. Burial with full military rites accorded by American Legion Post 902 and V.F.W. Post 191 will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
