Dr. Calvin J. Swank, 74, formerly of Ligonier, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at his home in Coal Center. Born April 9, 1940, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Harry J. and Maude Bennett Swank. Prior to his retirement in 1996, he had been a professor, instructing at Youngstown State. He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was a member of the Laughlintown Christian Church, member and past Post Commander for the Ligonier VFW Post No. 734, a member of Byers-Tosh Post No. 267 American Legion, the Porsche Club of America, and the English Car Club of Southwest Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Benjamin and Rick Swank. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Tichnor Swank; two daughters, Wendra (Chris) Burks, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Nina (Dan Bartko) Lenkey, of Youngstown, Ohio; a son, Jeffrey (Frances) Swank, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Jordan and Logan Burks and Brittany, Nicholas and Justin Swank. Friends were received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the J. PAUL MCCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier, where Calvin's life was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday with his pastor, George Umphlett Jr., officiating. Interment followed in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Ligonier Valley Veteran's Honor Guard held services in the funeral chapel at 7 p.m. Monday.
