Richard "Dick" J. Hillwig, 63, of Blawnox, originally of Hillville, Pa. (Karns City), passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, surrounded by his family and friends at home after a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Carol (Bennardo); and two children, his daughter, Kimberly (Patrick) Goodman; and his son, Brian (Angie) Hillwig; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Abigail Goodman and Lexi and Alyssa Hillwig; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a brother, Thomas (Sharon) Hillwig; two sisters, Ruth (Dan) Smith and Betty (Bill) Hoover; and three sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Bonnie (Jordan) Hillwig; and brother, Kevin Hillwig. Dick was a member of St. Edward/St. Pio Catholic Church, the Blawnox Auxiliary Police Department and the Blawnox Sportsman Club. He loved to sing and play the guitar and enjoyed golf, bowling and fishing.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, and Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at the THOMAS M. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY LTD., 930 Center Ave., Blawnox, PA 15238, where family and friends will gather at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, for a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pio Parish/St. Edward Church, 450 Walnut St., Blawnox, PA 15238.
