Chester Sattiaux Obituary

Chester R. Sattiaux, 91, died Sunday, May 21, 2017. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born July 20, 1925, in Belltown, Somerset County. He was a World War II veteran who took part in the D-Day invasion of Nazi-occupied France. He received the Purple Heart for his injury during a heroic rescue of a fellow soldier. After returning from the war, he worked in the mining industry and for the Postal Service, and retired as a rural letter carrier in 1980. He spent his last years volunteering at Excela Westmoreland and Frick hospitals as a greeter, and he prepared taxes for the elderly through AARP. He served for many years as a member of the Armbrust Veterans, and he made it a priority to remember his fellow World War II servicemen by giving them a proper military sendoff. He was a member of the Armbrust Wesleyan Church in Armbrust, Pa. One of his best qualities was his sense of humor. He loved to pull practical jokes on his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Cora Truax Satcho; brothers, George "Edward" Satcho, Wilber Satcho, James Satcho, and John Satcho; and sisters, Edith Truax, Isabelle Shaffer, and Mabel King. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jane Sattiaux; children, Marcia and John Corkrean, Cheryl and Tim Croushore, and Bob and Jamie Sattiaux; grandchildren, Andy and Kenly Corkrean, Aimee and Luke Payne, Callie and Jared Kindt, Erik and Savannah Croushore, Garrick Sattiaux, and Zachary Sattiaux; and great-grandchildren, Eli Corkrean, Levi Payne, Evelyn Kindt, Liam Corkrean, and Thomas Croushore; and many nieces and nephews. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of a funeral service, Wednesday, in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant (724-547-3800), with Pastor Bonnie King officiating. A military service will be conducted at the funeral home by the Armburst Veteran's Association. A committal service and interment will follow in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Saltlick Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mt. Nebo Cemetery Association, c/o Martin Miller, P.O. Box 55, Champion, PA 15622, or the Armburst Wesleyan Church, 7790 State Route 819, Hunker, PA 15639, in memory of Chester R. Sattiaux.
