Joseph Sorokacs Obituary

Joseph J. Sorokacs, 90, of Trafford, died Sunday, April 3, 2011, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Joe was born March 25, 1921, in Trafford, the son of the late John and Veronica Public Sorokacs. Joe worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to entering the Army. He was a veteran of World War II holding the rank of sergeant as a squad leader with Company I, 337th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action in 1944 Italy in the European Theater. He received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for his heroic service. Joe retired from the Trafford Borough Public Works Department with 26 years of service and was a member of the Trafford American Legion Post No. 331 and the East McKeesport VFW, the Turtle Creek Disabled Veterans and the Labor's Union Local No. 1058. Joe was preceded in death by his two brothers, John and Michael Sorokacs; and an infant sister Ann Sorokacs. He is survived by his sister, Mary Mauro, of Florida; three nieces and one nephew, Mary Ann Ociepka, John Mauro, Veronica Jenkins and Laraine Bouchard, all of Michigan; his good friend and caregiver, Jackie Hopkins, of Ardara; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 7th St. (Route 130), Trafford, 412-372-3111. A funeral blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James D. Tringhese officiating.
