Lucille DeHaven Obituary

Lucille G. DeHaven, "The Grandmother of Trafford," died suddenly Dec. 10, 2016. She was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Gallitzin to Anthony and Sophia Maruca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, and five siblings. Lucy is survived by her only daughter, Patricia (Dan) Lenart, of Harrison City; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Edward Maruca (Mary Agnes), of Gallitzin; sister-in-law, Liz Maruca, of Victor, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a retired accounting clerk at Westinghouse Electric in Manor. For more than 50 years, Lucy had been involved in many charitable and civic endeavors. She was the recipient of many awards recognizing her tireless efforts of helping others and making the world a better place. Trafford recognized her as Citizen of the Year, and she was also the first Pennsylvanian to receive the Salute to Senior Service Award given by Home Instead Senior Care. As of a member of the Trafford Light-Up Night Committee, she enjoyed playing Mrs. Claus. However, most of her efforts were channeled through the Lions Club. Lucy served as president of Trafford Lions Club, president and founder of the Trafford Lioness Club and co-founder and sponsor of the Trafford Leo Club (the first Leo Club in District 14-E). For her work in Lionism, she received numerous awards, including the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award (twice) and the Lioness of the Year in District 14-E, and she was recognized by Lions International for her leadership and service. Lucy touched many lives through her volunteering and was most proud of her involvement with the Leo Club and particularly through the drug and alcohol prevention program for the area's youth. She was a member of St. Regis Catholic Church in Trafford, Trafford Senior Citizens, Level Green Senior Citizens and St. Barbara Young at Heart. Lucy was a kind, loving, giving, energetic and involved member of the community who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the JOHN M. DOBRINICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 702 Seventh St. (State Route 130), Trafford (412-372-3111).
