Shirley J. Chicka

1935 - 2017

Shirley J. (Loughner) Sarnese Chicka, 82, of Greensburg, formerly of Latrobe, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at her residence. Born May 14, 1935, in Latrobe, she was a daughter of the late Ralph C. Loughner Sr. and Esther (McCracken) Loughner. Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales, cooking, gardening and most especially spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Loughner; and five sisters, June Miller, Verna Burke, Lulu Mazzoni, Ann Seibel and an infant, Esther. Shirley is survived by one son, Dominick J. Sarnese Jr. and his wife, Dr. Kelly Haarer, of Monroeville; four daughters, Deborah L. Sarnese, of Export, Diana L. Knatz and her husband, Mark, of Greensburg, Nicole R. Baird and her husband, Daniel, of Butler, and Shani L. Chicka, of Greensburg; one brother, Ralph G. "Moe" Loughner Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Latrobe; four cherished grandchildren, Tiffany and her husband, Joel, Tim and his wife, Maura, Patrick and Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Lainey; several nieces and nephews; and several "grand fur babies." The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Hillman Cancer Center and Bridges Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Don Hezlep officiating. Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery.
