Betty M. Zur Obituary
Betty Marie Zur, 88, of South Connellsville, passed from this life to the next Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the home of her son, Greg. She was born Nov. 21, 1928, the daughter of the late William Fordyce and Marguerite Nameth. Betty worked for 15 years for Anchor Hocking. She spent 15 years working for the Republican Party and 21 years helping with the election polls in Fayette County. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville. Betty loved decorating cakes and was an adept canner - pickled beets were a specialty. She enjoyed shopping excursions with her daughter-in-law Nancy and savored the food at Colonel Sander's Kentucky Fried Chicken. Betty enjoyed fishing with Pete; the water level at the lake reportedly rose three inches when her large wooden bobber splashed into the water. She was an ardent fan of cookouts - for both the food and the company - and of peanut butter melties and Mid's Candy. Betty was both funny and feisty - she was a memorable woman and will be missed. Betty is survived, and will be missed, by her children, William Zur and wife Margo, of Rockwood, and Gregory Zur and wife Nancy (Lauffer), of Ligonier; two granddaughters; sister, Wilemma Fordyce Seal, of Missouri; and son-in-law, Martin Kapusta, of Greensburg. Betty also leaves behind Hannah, her canine friend and faithful companion. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Peter Anthony Zur; stepfather, Joe Nameth; daughter, Charlene Zur Kapusta; and brother, William Fordyce.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville. Additional visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when prayers of transfer will be held. A funeral Mass will immediately follow at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Connellsville.
