Beverly M. Karow Obituary
Beverly M. Karow, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt, age 88, of Jones Mills, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018. She was born in Reedsburg, Wis., to Sylvester and Vera DuBois. Beverly was raised on a small dairy farm not far from the one-room school house where she attended primary school. She had a lifelong love of gardening, animals and the rural countryside and always enjoyed car rides to view the local farmland. She graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1947, then attended a two-year business school. In 1953, she married Robert M. Karow, also of Reedsburg, and then moved to the Pittsburgh area where she remained (except for a brief time in Newark, N.J., and White Oak, Md.) until her passing. But she and her husband always made time to return to Wisconsin several times a year with their sons. There were many family road trips across North America and many trips to Europe and Asia during the subsequent years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was active in the Cub Scouts and was a volunteer gardener at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Monroeville and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh for decades. She was preceded in her death by her husband Robert, parents and sister Shirley (DuBois) Bass. She is survived by her son Robert, of Alexandria, Va.; son Stuart, of Jones Mills; grandchildren Shoshanah and Noah; nieces Sandra Greenwood (Gerald) and Linda Behn (Fred), of Reedsburg, Wis.; nephew James Bass (Trisch), of Janesville, Wis.; and their children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, with a service at 3 p.m. at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. On Memorial Day weekend, she will be placed alongside her husband in Reedsburg, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eleanor G. Morris Community Service Scholarship, 166 Jones Mills Stahlstown Road, Jones Mills, PA 15646. For online condolences, visit BarnhartFuneralHome.com.
