Christine Slewinski Blackall Obituary

Christine Ann Slewinski Blackall, 44, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in Tavares, Fla. Born July 9, 1969, in Camp Lejeune, N.C., she was the daughter of Kathy G. (Slewinski) Muisiner and John P. Slewinski. After graduating from Kane Area High School in 1987, she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, and in 2002, married Darryl L. Blackall, who survives. Beginning her journalism career as a high school reporter for the Kane Republican, Christy was a talented writer/editor who held editorial positions at several major publications, including the Greensburg Tribune-Review, New York Daily News and the Orlando Sentinel. She was also employed by Nickelodeon's Go City Kids/Parents Connect and Intuary Inc. Most recently she was social media director for "A Way In" of Philadelphia and managing editor of the "TV Worth Watching" website, and had accepted a teaching position with the Alee Academy in Eustis, Fla. Christy is survived, in addition to her husband of Clermont, Fla., by her stepchildren, Scott (Amanda) and Bryan Blackall and Gina (Eric) Martin; grandchildren, Paige and Payton Blackall and Brayden Martin; her parents, Kathy G. Muisiner and John P. Slewinski; a brother, John S. (Kelly) Slewinski; and stepbrothers, Matthew and Andrew Muisiner; plus nephews, Sean and Jacob Slewinski; many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends who were like family; and her loving dog, Lola. Preceding her in death were her stepfather, Frank R. Muisiner Jr.; a sister in infancy; her maternal grandparents, Howard and Lois Gongaware; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Carolyn Slewinski; an uncle, David W. Gongaware; and her beloved dog, Sirius. A celebration of Christy's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in The Presbyterian Church, 103 Greeves St., in Kane, with the Rev. Rebecca Taylor, pastor, officiating. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to a scholarship fund in Christy's memory to The Alee Academy, 1705 County Road 44, Eustis, FL 32736-2500, and include Christy's name on the memo line of the check.
