George M. Bishop Obituary
George Michael Bishop, 91, of Delmont, formerly of Greensburg, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at home, with his devoted family at his side. He was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Greensburg, the son of the late Michael Andrew and Ethel Mae (Johnson) Bishop. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Prior to retiring, he was employed for 42 years as a mechanic by West Penn Power Co. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Marine Corps, with active duty in the Phillippines, and earned the rank of Corporal. He was a member of St. Matthias Lutheran Church, Greensburg, a charter member of Hamlin Township Fire Department, Mt. Jewett American Legion, Post 0574 and the Clermont Sportsmen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, George C. Bishop; grandson, Michael Pennell; father-in-law, Lester Conrad; and mother-in-law, Ruth Conrad. George will be greatly missed by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lou Jean Gail (Conrad) Bishop; daughters, Traci L. Crise (James), of Delmont, Cheryl A. Broker (John), of Greensburg, and Kathleen A. Krysiak (Mark), of Erie; special sister-in-law, Leslie Ann Conrad, of Export; and special friend, Ed Immel (Shirley), of Trees Mills. He will be especially missed by his three grandchildren, Jim Crise (Missy), Bob Crise and Janis Crise-Bumoskey (Roy); and great-grandchildren, Rylan Crise-Bumoskey, Jalon Crise-Bumoskey, Redun Crise-Bumoskey, Samone Crise, Mason Crise and Syrus Crise.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. Funeral and committal services for George will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, immediately following visitation, with Pastor Paul Gruesu of St. Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, officiating. Full military honors accorded by VFW Post 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg, will follow services. Interment in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, will be private.
