Herbert F. Chearney Obituary
Herbert F. Chearney, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Westmoreland Manor. He was born July 26, 1935, in Acme, a son of the late Rudolph and Beulah Snyder Chearney. Prior to retirement, he was employed at Teledyne Coordinators in Irwin. He was a maintenance supervisor for more than 12 facilities across the United States and worked there for 23 1/2 years. Prior to health issues, he and his wife enjoyed singing gospel music at many churches. They were members of the Gospel Rays, who were blessed to play the first Gospel Opry in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dogs, Sporty, Skippy and Beauty. He is survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Donna Woods Chearney; three children, Vicki Griffin and husband Ed, of Youngwood, Sandra McCllellan and husband Randy, of Greensburg, and Laurie Underwood and husband Rick, of Mt. Pleasant; three grandchildren, Matt and wife Krysti, Nick and wife Brianna, and Kristina; one great-grandchild, Westin Underwood; and sisters, Phyllis Mentzer and Katherine Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Homer, Ed, Dick and George; and sister, Velma Ash. He is a member of Mt. Zion Community Church in Acme.
Friends will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Hasse and the Rev. Leroy Kesler co-officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery.
