Ida Yankovic Obituary
Ida (Klanchesser) Yankovic, 84, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Westmoreland Hospital. Ida was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Herminie. While she spent most of her life raising a family in Scottdale, Ida also made homes in Cleveland, Ohio, New Port Richey, Fla., and Greensburg. Ida married Frank "Babe" Smodic in 1953. The couple settled in Scottdale, where they raised their four children, Frank, Sonya, Dale and Donald. Later in life, Ida remarried "America's Polka King," Frankie Yankovic, and toured the world with Frank and his band. Ida was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. She made friends easily and kept in touch with all she met. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Ida was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become "Grandma" to her nine grandchildren and "Gammy" to her nine great-grandchildren. Ida loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She would spend hours cooking a Slovenian meal and preparing for her company. Ida was the beloved wife of the late Frank Yankovic, with whom she is most certainly once again dancing the polka, caring sister to John Klanchesser and the late Katherine Noss; devoted mother to Frank Smodic, Sonya Lowe, Dale Smodic and the late Donald Smodic; loving grandma to Stefanie, Lindsey, Amber, Rebecca, Matthew, Natalie, Rhett, Victoria and Hart; and adoring great-grandma to Michaela, Lailah, Kenley, Claire, Ashton, Levi, Clyde, Alena and Axton.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the FERGUSON'S FUNERAL HOME, 105 Spring St., Scottdale. Funeral services will be at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Hospital, which Ida supported.
