John Pishko Obituary
John Pishko, 90, of Greensburg, formerly of Slickville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. He was born June 25, 1927, in Slickville, a son of the late Harry and Mary (Wolozsnowicz) Pishko. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Prior to retiring, he was employed by Beckwith Machinery Co., Murrysville, and Delmont. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. John was a longtime member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Slickville. He enjoyed gardening, cutting grass, playing his accordion, listening to polka music, going to polka dances and spending many evenings at the Golden Pheasant with dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kathleen Frances Pishko; sisters, Ann Downes and Evelyn Marshall; brothers, Harry "Cook" Pishko and George Pishko; and sister-in-law, Helen Pishko. John will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of 63 years, Eleanor (Pongan) Pishko; children, Patricia Zaccagnini (Joseph), of Export, John Edward Pishko (Dorita), also of Export, Kenneth Pishko, of Greensburg and Pamela Weirs (Jason), also of Greensburg; brother, Joseph "Boxy" Pishko; of Michigan; sister-in-law, Gladys Pishko, of Harrison City; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Christine Aleski. John will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Alyssa Zaccagnini and Elena Weirs, both of whom he was very proud.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177. A funeral Mass for John will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Sylvester Catholic Church, 3028 St. Route 819, Slickville, with Father Ken Zaccagnini, of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Lower Burrell, as celebrant, Everyone is asked to please meet at the church. Committal services, military honors accorded by American Legion Post 981 Honor Guard, Greensburg, and entombment in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, will follow.
