Laurie A. Fix Obituary
Laurie Ann (Lackey) Fix, 56, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Murrysville, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 13, 1962, in Dearborn, Mich., daughter of Ann T. (Weis) Lackey, of Murrysville, and the late Donald R. Lackey. Laurie attended Mother of Sorrows grade school and she was a 1980 graduate of Greensburg Central Catholic High School. Laurie was a gifted artist from a very young age, often using her paintings as an extension of her lifelong passion for animal life. In 1989, she married George J. Fix, commencing a 13-year journey including pursuit of careers in Arlington, Texas, and then in Clemson, S.C., until George's death in 2002.During this time period, Laurie's love of cooking blossomed. She also assisted George with several books on the brewing of beer. Laurie became an accomplished photographer, possessing the uncanny ability to capture the spirit of any animal through her lens. For the past 15 years, Laurie owned a horse farm in Aiken, S.C., where she singlehandedly managed the care for her 4-6 horses, most of which were Missouri Fox Trotters, and a menagerie of dogs and cats. To say Laurie loved horses would be an understatement. In addition to George, her father, Donald, who affectionately referred to her as "Lulu", preceded Laurie in death in 2014. She is survived by her mother, Ann Lackey, and her brothers, Robert L. (Karen), Gary D. (Mary Jo), both of Hermitage, and Daniel R. (Margaret), of Murrysville; 10 nieces and nephews, Emily (Benjamin) Kavanagh, Cecilia, Suzanne, Robert, Patrick, Dennis, Gregory (Elizabeth), Melissa, Jeffrey and Richard Lackey; and two great-nephews, Owen and Daniel Kavanagh.
Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2018, in Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Equine Rescue of Aiken, 532 Glenwood Drive, Aiken, SC 29803. www.aikenequinerescue.org. in Laurie's name. www.hartfuneralhomeinc.com.
