Roberta N. Leslie Obituary
Roberta N. Leslie, 92, of Ligonier, died peacefully Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Ligonier Gardens. She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in East McKeesport, a daughter of the late Robert and Blanche Landsberger Nelson. Prior to her retirement in 1990, she had been employed as the school nurse for the Ligonier Valley School District. Previously she had been employed as a registered nurse at the former McGinnis Hospital. She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a faithful member of the Heritage United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and she was a member of the American Legion No. 267 Ladies Auxiliary. Roberta's passions were golfing, bowling on several different leagues, playing bridge and bingo. She also was an overseer of the Ligonier Borough voting stations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Leslie, in 2008, and a sister, Jean Strong. Roberta is survived by five children, Randy (Charles) Breitsman and Lu (Greg) Sonnabend, all of Ligonier, Nancy Cook, of Lemont, Pa., John R. Leslie, of Falls Church, Va., and Terry (James) Younkin, of Coraopolis; eight grandchildren, Leah and Matthew Younkins, Alex (Jennifer) and Sarah Breitsman, Jordan and Jonah Sonnabend and Ryan (Elizabeth) and Christopher Leslie; a great-grandson, Elias Breitsman; and two sisters, Joanne Wilkins, of Ligonier, and Carol Fulmer, of Hudson, Fla.
Roberta's friends and family will gather together from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. Interment will follow in the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
