James P. Thompson Obituary
James Perry "Jim" Thompson, 73, of Export, died peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, in UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born Aug. 30, 1945, in Ardara, a son of the late Donley and Ruth (Bickerstaff) Thompson. Jim was a self-employed cabinet maker. He was a proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Poke Run Presbyterian Church, Apollo, where he served as a trustee, and a member of the American Legion. Jim was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest. He especially loved spending time with his family, traveling with his wife, Carol, and driving his 2010 Mustang convertible. He took pleasure in attending concerts and musicals, playing cards, golfing, bowling, hunting and gardening. Jim was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jim will be greatly missed by his beloved family. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol (Hodge) Thompson; daughter, Heather Lischner (John), of Lancaster; son, Andy Thompson (Christina), of Export; brother, Larry Thompson (Carol), of Ardara; many family members and friends; and a number of nephews. Jim was the proud and loving grandfather of Bobby, Devin and Kyle.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. There will be additional viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home prior to funeral services that will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday in Poke Run Presbyterian Church, 1091 Poke Run Church Road, Apollo, with the Rev. Peter M. Goetschius officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by VFW Post 33 Honor Guard, Greensburg, will follow in Poke Run Church Cemetery.
