Fred Lydick Obituary

Fred Lydick Sr., 73, of Greensburg (Salem Township), passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, in UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born June 21, 1937, in Crabtree, a son of the late Byrum and Beatrice (Steiner) Lydick. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a pipe fitter by the former General Tire and Rubber Co., Jeannette. He was a veteran of the Navy Reserve. Fred was very involved in the community over the years, including being a member of the former Cloudbreakers Camping Club, the Fort Allen Antique Equipment Club, which included working the cider press at the annual Delmont Apple 'n Arts Festival, and he was a member of the Alwine Civic Center. He worshipped at the Open Door Baptist Church, Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou (Shuster) Lydick; sister, Lois Keller; and brother, Glenn Lydick. Fred will be greatly missed and is survived by his loving and devoted family; his wife of 17 months, Bessie (Fait) Sheffler Lydick; children, Kathie Knupp and her husband, Mark, of Blairsville, Sue Kline and her husband, Tom, of Clear Spring, Md., Debbie Ruff and her husband, Kevin, of Greensburg, Fred Lydick Jr. and his wife, Tracy, of New Alexandria, and Lori Brown and her husband, Doug, of North Huntingdon; brothers and sisters, Joy Morris, of Tennessee, Goldie Wilson, of Greensburg, Thomas Lydick, of Jeannette, Nancy Stouffer, of Connellsville, and Byrum Lydick Jr., of Polk; grandchildren, Shawn, Chad, Heather, Josh, Regan, Andy, Zak, Joel, Brenden, Olivia and Owen; great-grandchildren, Andrea and Nicholas; stepsons, Charles Sheffler and Richard Sheffler; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by the many friends whose lives he touched. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, 724-468-1177. Funeral services for Fred will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Craig Pendl, of Open Door Baptist Church, officiating. Private graveside services and interment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
