Frederick G. Ride Obituary
Frederick Glenn Ride, 97, of Longwood at Oakmont, and previously a proud Oakmont resident, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 4, 2017. He was the beloved and devoted husband for 64 years of the late Barbara Ryan Ride; loving father of four daughters, Marcia (Lewis) Beckwith, Margaret Peterson, Nancy Ride and Judy (John) Murray; grandfather of Laura (Raymond) Buchner, Greg Beckwith, Erica (Jacob) Clapsadle, Mark (Sara) Peterson, Kimberly (Brad) Siegler and Gretchen (David) Miller; and great-grandfather of five. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Pearl (Wood) Ride; sister, Ruth Ride; and brother, Ray A. Ride, of Cleveland, Ohio. Glenn attended Grove City College for one year, and then completed his degree in dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Immediately following graduation in 1943, he was honored to serve in the Dental Corps of the Navy in World War II. Upon returning home, he practiced dentistry in Oakmont for 40 years. He was a talented practitioner and devoted to the care of his patients. After retirement, Barb and he traveled and played golf together and enjoyed having more time to spend with family and friends. Glenn was a longtime member of Oakmont Presbyterian Church, Oakmont Country Club, and Oakmont Lions Club, was a member of F and AM 548, Shriners, and the Scottish Rite. Glenn enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, gardening and home repairs. He was proud to have played golf at Oakmont CC until 91 and bowled until 94. His family was blessed by his kindness, love, hard work, and unfailing good nature.
Friends and relatives will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, for a memorial visitation at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Oakmont Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in the Verona Cemetery, Oakmont, with his wife, Barbara.
