Harry R. Brake Obituary
Harry R. Brake, 59, of Winfield Township, passed away at home Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side. He was born May 25, 1958, in Harrison Township, son of the late Harry B. Brake and Ethel Mae (McGuire) McNeal. Harry lived in the area his entire life. He was in maintenance for a property management company in Wexford for many years. Harry was of the Methodist faith. He was in the Air Force Reserves as a Master Sergeant at the 911th Air Force Base in Coraopolis. He was head of the carpentry division and retired in 1997 after spending 21 years in the service. He graduated in 1976 from Highlands High School and enjoyed being a Pappy most of all, but also enjoyed doing yard work, family events and watching sports, especially hockey. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Valerie K. (Peiffer) Brake; daughters, Jacqueline N. (Andrew) Barnes, of New Kensington, Shandi N. (James) Sherman, of Harrisville, and Whitney L. Wurmb, at home; grandchildren, Keyshaun Anthony "Bubba" Barnes, Caileab J. Sherman, Jamison C. Sherman, Chelseigh N. Sherman and Isaiah N. Sherman; mother-in-law, Patricia Peiffer, of Saxonburg, and stepmother, Candy S. Brake, of Chicora; brothers, Ronald (Misty) Brake, of Creighton, Jeffrey Brake, of Natrona, Rodney Brake, of Lyndora, Richard (Marybeth) Brake, of Kittanning, Harry Brake Jr., of Delaware, Melvin (Kelly) McNeal, of Fawn Township; two stepbrothers, Joseph (Mallory) Schreckengost, of Slippery Rock, and Robert Wetmore and brother-in-law, Dale (Mary) Peiffer, of East Brady. Also surviving are six sisters, Pamela (Tom) McNeal, of Pleasantville, Jonie (Walter) Keller, of Brackenridge, Lisa Copney, of West Virginia, Tracy Geracia, of Tarentum, Melanie (Donald) Lang, of Natrona Heights, and Kristen Brake, of Chicora; and stepsisters, Nicole (George) Hobaugh, of Chicora, and Amanda (Dusty) Brown, of Kittanning. Also surviving are multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Melvin McNeal, and brother-in-law, Larry Copney.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Thursday in the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 347 E. Tenth Ave., Tarentum, 724-224-1526. Military honors will be by the Air Force. Burial will be private.
