Jon D. Rupert Obituary
Jon D. "Rupe" Rupert, 57, of Saxonburg, passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Jon was born in Brookville, Pa., on June 9, 1960, the son of the late Leland L. and Judith (Dunn) Rupert. He was a graduate of Clarion High School. After high school, Jon attended and graduated from West Virginia University, where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. After college, Jon served as the treasurer of Sugar Creek Borough in Franklin, Pa., and the business manager of Union School District in Rimersburg, Pa. For the past 31 years, he served as the business manager and secretary of the board for Highlands School District in Natrona Heights. During that time, he earned his master's degree in public management and policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Jon was a member of many professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials, the Association of School Business Officials International, Pennsylvania School Boards Association, Pennsylvania Registered School Business Administrator, Highlands Community Educational Foundation Officer, West Penn Power Consumer Advisory Board of Directors, and was a Leadership Alle-Kiski Valley graduate. In addition, Jon was a member of the Saxonburg Sportsman Club and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was a proud member of National Rifle Association as well. Jon loved spending time with his family and friends and spent many years coaching his children. While his children were young, he was a beloved coach and president of the Saxonburg Spartans. He coached Saxonburg baseball and Knoch youth basketball as well. Jon loved his hometown of Clarion and being from the Spaghetti Hill neighborhood. The friendships he formed during his life were a huge part of who he was. He loved to hunt, fish, cheer on the Mountaineers and ride his Harley with his motorcycle gang. Over the last few years, Jon spent time traveling with his family and loved spending time with his two beautiful granddaughters, Haley and Harper, whom he loved so much. Jon respected and loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and would want everyone to remember to "keep the shiny side up." He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kelley (Estadt) Rupert. He is also survived by his three children, Lindsay Jankowski (Joe), of Wexford, Mark Rupert, of Apollo, and Jake Rupert, of Pittsburgh; granddaughters, Haley and Harper Jankowski; brother, Leland E. Rupert (Jean), of Clarion; sisters, Bonnie Tompkins (Terry), of Kennesaw, Ga., Patty Abel (David), of Acworth, Ga., and Judy Wolbert (Paul), of Marble, Pa.; mother-in-law, Mame Estadt, of Shippenville, Pa.; brother-in-law, Dave Estadt, of Clarion; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland L. Rupert and Judith (Dunn) Rupert; his nephew, Daniel Tompkins; father-in-law, Daniel Estadt; and brother-in-law, Danny Estadt.
