Mildred Kanaan

1924 - 2016

Mildred "Millie" Kanaan, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. She was born Jan. 29, 1924, in New Kensington, to the late Paul and Hazel Shaffer Bougher. She was a member of St. George Orthodox Church and enjoyed taking care of her lawn, rose gardening, reading, preparing Syrian food, doing crossword puzzles and singing. In her earlier years, even with five young children, she found time to sing in the church choir. She worked in the seal department of Alcoa during World War II. After her husband's retirement, they moved to Warren and lived along the Allegheny River for many years. It was a unique experience she loved to share with her family and friends. Surviving are her children, Billie (Larry) Levish, of Kittanning, Barbara (Dennis) Cypher, of South Buffalo Township, Wendy Kanaan, of Apollo, and James (Dana) Kanaan, of Russell; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Connie Kanaan, of South Dakota. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nagy Kanaan, in 2009; her son, Kenneth Kanaan, in 2006; and siblings, Frances Muller, Mary Louise McElheny, Marie Young, Hazel Reed, Margaruette Dargenzio, Dorothy Householder, Barbara Bougher, Mark Bougher, Paul "Bud" Bougher and Robert Bougher.
Private visitation and services were held in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., of New Kensington. Private burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, followed.
