GRAY, LOUIS
Louis Nichols Gray Louis was born in Seattle, WA to Elisha and Jane Gray in April 1938. He then resided in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School in 1956. A highly intelligent, well versed individual, he started studying Sociology at the University of Washington, where he obtained his bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. During this course of work and spreading his passion of education is where he met his wife Robin in 1962 at the World's Fair. In 1965 they were married in Seattle, WA, and then took on what would be 40 years of teaching, and 47 years of residence at WSU in Pullman, WA. His life was more than education, statistics, and mathematics. He was passionate for music, especially jazz, and a great supporter of the arts at WSU. Louis was talented in many ways; adept with drums, the flute, and playing the piano. His heart, outside of his family, was with his students and it showed. An annual award was derived in his name, and he was the first recipient in 1998 from the graduate students "The Louis Gray Graduate Student Advocate Award" which honors how he mentored and guided them. He passed away peacefully December 2014 and will be deeply missed by all he touched, but especially his family. He is survived in death by his wife Robin of 49 years, his daughter Jane Harris (Thomas), his two grandchildren, Olivia and Jacqueline, step brother Robert Roen, and step sister Carolyn Houghton (Richard). Donations can be made to the WSU Art Museum, the School of Music, or the Sociology Department. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home. GREEN, LORETTA
The Legacy of Loretta Marie Green 4/10/26 - 12/13/14 Loretta was born in Seattle, Washington where she lived until meeting the love of her life, Fred Green in June of 1942. They were married on February 19, 1943 and were happily married for 61 years until Fred's death in 2004. Together they had four children: Janet (Terry) Turnbull who died in a winter car crash on December 29, 1996, Kathy (Nick) Doben, Larry (Kim) Green and Sheila (Larry) Hoffman. Loretta loved to laugh and play cards and enjoyed being with people. She was very proud of her children, her 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She had a special way of making others feel very loved. Loretta had a fondness for jewelry, purses and enjoyed making Norwegian cookies every Christmas. She lived at the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community for the last two years of her life where she made many friends. In spite of health issues, her children believe Loretta died of a broken heart because she missed Fred every day. We love you mom, and will miss you so much. I Cor 13:13 Services will be held Monday, December 29th at 1:30 pm, Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent. A reception will follow, from 2 pm to 5 pm, at the Covington City Hall, 16720 SE 271st Covington, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in memory of Loretta Green, to Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community Foundation (tax deductible).
