Shirley H. Hagestad Recently of Auburn, passed away quietly on Monday, November 25, 2013 at the age of 92. She was born to Clifford R. and Cora A. Horr in Tacoma on May 8, 1921. Shirley grew up in Tacoma, graduated from Stadium High School in 1939, attended the College of Puget Sound, then graduated from the University of Washington
in 1943. She married Harold A. Hagestad on May 8, 1948. Besides family, golf, and bridge, Shirley was extremely active in P.E.O. for over 60 years. She belonged to chapters in Tacoma and Auburn, and served in state offices for several years, leading up to the state presidency of P.E.O. in 1973-74. She served on the Executive Board of Washington State P.E.O Chapter for 6 years, and for 5 additional years on the Study and Research Committee of International Chapter of P.E.O. Shirley is survived by sons Mark (Jannis) of Auburn and Miles (Nicole) Hagestad (Pacific), grandson Ian (Auburn), and numerous nieces and nephews. Per Shirley's written desire a family memorial was held by the immediate family. She also requested that any memorial donations be sent to P.E.O. Chapter GN, 17219 135th Ave. Ct. E., Puyallup, WA 98374. Shirley will be laid to rest alongside her husband Hal at the Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington in a field overlooking Mt. Rainier.
