GLEN BERRY Obituary

Glen W. Berry Glen died at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 7th, at the Hospice House of North Idaho in Coeur D'Alene. He was born March 16th, 1919 in Tooele, Utah to Charles Wade and Della St. Jeor Berry. His family was always first in Glen's heart. He had four children. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. At 22, Glen crawled out a window of the base hospital to avoid being left behind by his tank company deployment to Morocco in WWII. For the next three years he was involved in heavy fighting across Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, and Austria. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and also a Croix De Guerre, the highest honor France can bestow upon a non-citizen. Glen remained with the Army as a civilian employee after the war. He served as the Director of Civilian Personnel at the United States Military Headquarters in Verdun, France for many years; Fort Irwin, California; the Army Finance Center in Indianapolis; Sixth Army Headquarters at the Presidio of San Francisco; Seoul, Korea and Fort Lewis, Washington. Glen retired to homes in Sumner, Orting, and Bonney Lake, Washington. Glen lost a son, Charles Brent Berry, to cancer in 1991. His wife of 70 years, Betty Allsop Berry, passed on at age 90 in 2011. An only daughter, Kay Berry (Hart) Petrie, was lost a year later. Glen is survived by sons Robert G. Berry of Helper, Utah and Raymond L. Berry of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, and daughter-in-law Valerie Withrow (Berry) Lines of Federal Way, Washington. Glen had recently reached the age of 95 years. He will be greatly missed. A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18th, 2014, at the City Cemetery in Sumner, Washington.
