JACOB SCHLUMPF Obituary

Jacob "Jack" Francis Schlumpf Jacob passed away in the loving embrace of the Lord and the watchful eyes of his family on Sunday, January 30, 2011 of complications of COPD at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite Morrisette Schlumpf; his brother, Frederick; his parents; and his brother-in-law, Don Grish. He leaves his brothers, William (Kathleen) and Michael (Kathy), and his sister, Rosa Grish. Jack also leaves his five children: Jacob, Jr. (Pamela McMahan), Daniel, Margene, Julie and Marty (Julie) and four grandchildren: Zachary Schlumpf, Erin Schlumpf, Brightin Schlumpf and Katelyn Mathews (Josh), three brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack was born in Tacoma on Feb. 1, 1927, the first of five children of Frank Jacob Schlumpf and Helen Exner Schlumpf. Growing up on family farms in the river valleys of Enumclaw and Fife instilled in Jack an amazing work ethic. Graduating first in his Fife High School Class of 1945, Jack also excelled on the athletic fields, lettering in four varsity sports. His leadership and determination drove his service in the U.S. Army; he enlisted in 1945 as a Private, was selected for Officer Candidate School, and served in Korea. After 20 years in the Army Reserve, Jack retired as a Major. In 1948 Jack and Marguerite married and started a family in Fife, later moving up the hill to Milton. He worked in the door and wood products industry, and in 1960 opened his own business, Allied PreHung Door, Inc., in Fife. As a result of Jack's intelligence, tenacity, great employees, and Marguerite's steady hand, the business prospered and became legendary for great products and great service for 25 years. Jack loved his family first and foremost, but he also loved the mountains and waters of the Pacific Northwest. He was an avid fisherman, and loved casting into the Puyallup, the Coho Charters at Westport and his trips to Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Through his true grit, balanced with a great sense of humor, "Action Jackson" inspired everyone who knew him. Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 7 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Parish, 2305 54th Ave., Fife. Rosary is at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00. Reception follows in the parish hall. Remembrances can be sent to St. Martin of Tours Parish Renovation Fund in Fife. Thank you, Dad, for always being such a generous, loving provider. . .we love you. I met Jack about 5 years ago when he wondered in to were I worked for a hair-cut. We have been buddies ever since. For the last couple of years I have been coming to the home whenever Jack would call for a hair-cut, about every 6 weeks or so. During these visits I was fortunate to meet Margie, Julie, Margene, Marty, Jack and some of his grandchildren. What a wonderful family. Jack was so fortunate to have such a loving family. Jack's passing took me by suprise and I am really going to miss him. I truly looked forward to those visits. He was very sharp and always had interesting stories, a great sense of humor and was genuinely interested in others. He loved people and once he met you, you became his friend. He was devoted to his family. To the Family: I know you will miss him dearly. I hope you will find comfort in the many treasured memories you shared with him.

To my beloved brother and his children. Jack, you, and Marge were always part of the life that Don and I loved. The birthday parties, the holiday gatherings when we were all together. The love of Fife and the valley that we shared all of our lives. I will always revere your memory, and I thank your children for the love and care that they bestowed upon you always. Jack, you are with many of our loved ones now. Until we are all together again. Your loving sister, Rosi (and Berne, too)!!

I have many fond memories of Jack, not the least being our bump dance when we saw each other. Even in his declining health, we did a kinder gentler version:). My prayers and love to the Schumpf family

All the Schlumpf family, I loved your dad and will miss seeing him. From a very young age we did a bump dance when we saw each other and he would do it even when he didn't feel well - a kinder gentler version - I will miss that. My prayers are with you at this time. Love you all!!

I had the great pleasure of meeting Jack and Marge in the 1980's when they came to Long Beach to visit Margene. They were fun and interested in everything, just young at heart! And now they're together again. All our thoughts and prayers are with the Schlumpf family. Jo-Dee and John Dingess
