LETA CONNON Obituary

Leta Connon "The Belle of Belfast City" 10/10/1930 08/13/2014 Leta was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, October 10, 1930, and passed away at her home in Tacoma on August 13, 2014, surrounded by family. Leta immigrated to Tacoma on August 23, 1972, with her husband John and daughters and lived in North Tacoma ever since. She was a skilled tailor and owned her own business "An Irish Tailor Shop" until she retired. After retirement, Leta volunteered at several Nursing Homes and the Tacoma Humane Society, which lead to the rescue of multiple geriatric dogs. She was a constant presence at her Church, Old St. Peter's in Old Town, and was there to do whatever needed doing. She read every day from childhood and loved to work in her garden. Many people brought her their "sick" plants to bring back to health. Shortly before she passed away, she planned and planted a new garden space that will be a remembrance garden for her family. As a mother and a granny, Leta was the perfect blend of nurture and discipline. She is the strongest person we have ever known. Leta loved children and the sound of her great-grandchildren's voices gave her great joy in the final stage of her life. Even as Leta was dying, she shared lessons with her family. Our family is blessed to have such a role model to help guide us through life. Leta is survived by her daughters Sharon (Roger) and Sheena (Edward); grand-children Stephen, Tara (Michael), Owen (Julie) and Angelitta (Lance); great-grand-children, Julian, Jadah, Meric, Samatua, Deagl n, Tali, Ellyanna and soon-to-be born name sake Lena R¢is¡n; a sister Sadie and a brother Sam in Northern Ireland and many nieces and nephews around the world. Being part of a large Irish family has insured that Leta is loved world-wide. The family would like to thank Group Health Hospice, and in particular Angela Lee, her nurse, for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank the Rev. Morgan Johnson and to express special gratitude to Ginny Torres for her friendship, love and care for Mom during her life and throughout her long illness. We will never forget it. A Memorial Service will be held on August 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Old St. Peter's Church, 2910 N. Starr, Tacoma. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
