Agnes Mildred Hemming

Agnes Mildred Hemming Agnes was born in Minnesota on August 28, 1914, and died peacefully on May 12, 2011 at Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma. Agnes was employed by Manley's and Safeway. She met Matt Hemming in Seattle and was married six weeks later on December 28, 1945. Theirs was a marriage of devotion and fun until Matt's death on October 21, 2006. Agnes traveled as a military housewife for 20 years, making a home and lasting friendships wherever she lived. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran churches she attended, serving as a greeter, usher, and quilter, and baking biscottis for coffee hours and Vacation Bible School. In later years Agnes spent mornings baking and evenings in devotion with Matt. They loved their card games and having lunch with friends. Agnes is survived by her daughters Ann Hazel and Martha (Morry) Milsten, grandchildren Matt (Tanya), Jamie (Jake), Marc, and Daniel, great-grandchild Cayden, sister Daisy Tei, brother Elmer Tanskanen, numerous nieces and nephews, and her husband's family in Finland, with whom she was very close. She was predeceased by her husband Matt, her parents and stepfather, her brother Ray, and her grandson Robbie. Agnes had an un-conditional love as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by all she touched in her life. Agnes' family thanks the Tacoma Lutheran Home and Franciscan Hospice House for their loving care, and to whom memorial donations may be made. A service for Agnes will be held on Saturday, May 21st, at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Tacoma Lutheran Home, 1301 N. Highlands Pkwy.
