Arthur Scheetz Obituary

Arthur F. Scheetz, Jr. February. 14, 1943 April 4, 2011 Dearly loved husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Art was born and raised in Barberton, Ohio, the son of Arthur, Sr. and Margie Scheetz. At 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he was stationed in Washington where he met his wife Patricia. After a whirlwind courtship, they spent 45 happy years together. Art's second love in life was sports, and in 1974 Art and Pat opened The Heel athletic store where they worked side by side for 20 years. After retiring from business, Art combined his enthusiasm for athletics and children as a P.E. teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Tacoma. Known affectionately as "Mr. Scheetz" for well over a decade, Art was valued by his students and throughout the district as a teacher, mentor, and coach. Distinguished in the community, Art's involvement over the years included: Tacoma Rotary #8, Daffodil Festival committee member, athletic sponsor, Young Ambassadors coach, and 30-year member of Fircrest Golf Club. A great man who lived a rich, full life, Art will be remembered for his kindness, his generous heart, his service to his community, and his great sense of humor. Arthur is survived by his wife Patricia of Fircrest; sisters Wilma (Jim) Basler and Wanda (John) Deans, brother Roger (Laura) Scheetz, and brother-in-law Edward (Carol) Gray; nieces and nephews residing in Washington state: Danny Gray, Nicole (Tom) Schauer, Chad McKee, Nicholas and Brandon Scheetz, Amy and Alex Schauer, and great nephew Jack. Nieces and nephews also include: Melissa (Charles) Bish of West Virginia, Michael (Amy) Basler of West Virginia, Paul (Lisa) Basler of Virginia, and Brenda and Johnny Deans of Florida. A celebration of Art's life will be held at the Fircrest Golf Club on April 23, 2011 at 3pm.

Art,
It has been some time ago but the memories seem like yesterday.

Thanks for being a part of Tacoma's history and making it a special time.

You were one of the leaders that made softball and sports a candidate that may not be matched again in Tacoma's history.
