BARRETT THOMPSON Obituary

Barrett Thompson Was born at Tacoma General Hospital on June 28, 1950, and died on March 12, 2011, at the same place that brought him into this world. A lifelong Tacoma resident, he attended Clover Park High School and ultimately began his own business, Cascade Custom Jewelers. In his 60 years, he was an avid fisherman, car enthusiast, great outdoorsman, loving father, devoted brother, reverent friend, and compassionate human being. He could be the strong silent type, but had such a sharp wit that could often turn laughter into uncontrollable tears of joy. His culinary skills, especially barbequeing, were often met with eager abandon. Besides his eye for art and keen business sense, Barrett could fix or build just about anything. His children always made sure these talents remained finely honed. He is survived by his son, Patrick Thompson, daughter Connie Phillips, daughter Teri Thompson, sister Jayme Nitz, grandchildren Zac Morrell, Katie Morrell, Steven Phillips, Richard Phillips, and life companion, Hannah. His many friends and family will miss him dearly. At Barrett's request, no services will be held. The family will be holding a life-celebration in June. For more information, please contact Jayme at Cascade Custom Jewelers.

Barrett,
It has been a couple of years since I last seen you and it brought back some teen years in our days at Clover Park and Slyvan Park. When the time comes I will see you where there will be no pain and all our tears will be wiped away. It has been great knowing you..until then...

Barrett was a wonderful family friend to my parents George & Barbara. I grew up knowing Barrett & his family, our families had many fun times together. Barrett was @ the hospital the day my oldest son was born 24 years ago, he & christopher share the same birthday. Instead of going out for his birthday he & my parents stayed @ the hospital til I has my son. He said that was his present. Gotta love the man! Kind hearted, would do anything he could for you if he was able to help. He & my mom designed my wedding ring together along with many other beautiful pieces of jewelery. He was very creative & did beautiful work. I am truely saddened by his passing & my heart goes out to his children Pat, Terri, & Connie. Your dad was a great man & will be missed by all who knew him.

Barrett, You will always be thought of with so much love.
Connie, I'm so sorry for all the pain that your in. I hope that this poem can give you some comfort. The author is a wonderful writer. God Bless!

My dearest loved one, here on earth,

I saw a tear fall down your face.

You didn’t see me standing there,

Nor could you feel my soft embrace.

But I was standing next to you,

I know you looked around.

You seemed to wonder what it was

You thought you heard a sound.

Yes my love, it was I,

Who came to check on you.

I saw a tear fall from your eye,

I knew you were feeling blue.

Even though you cannot see me.

Please know that I am near

I am now an angel from above

To brush away your tear.

I know each day you think of me

And many times shed a tear.

But please just close your eyes

And know that I am near.

As I have told you often,

Do not be afraid to cry.

It does relieve the pain

Knowing we had to say goodbye.

One thing is for certain,

Even though life on earth is o’er

I’m still closer to you now

Than ever I was before.

I know you still don’t understand

Why I had to leave this earth

God doesn’t have any secrets;

It’s just all planned from our birth.

Someday when you have joined me

And meet God at His Throne,

It’s then you will understand

The questions that have been unknown.

Connie, you know I am sending thoughts and prayers for you and your family. It's obvious that you loved your dad very much and that he was an exceptional man and father. May the memories that you and your family have in your hearts bring you comfort and peace in this difficult time, and may time heal the pain you are feeling right now. Just remember with each small breeze, every raindrop, each glint of sun that reflects in your eye....think of those as your dad looking down on you and proudly smiling. Hugs and love ya!

I never had the opportunity to meet you, but, your daughter is a dear friend of mine. Fom the sounds of it, she inherited her wit, talent and not to mention her blue eyes from you.

You did a wonderful job raising her, everyone should be so lucky to have a Father like you.

Rest in peace.

Cheers,

Tricia and Payton

I am so shocked and sad at the passing of Barrett, I was able to reunite with him at a small class gathering a year ago, I will always remember his kindness his jokes and the laughter we shared, In High School he made a sad situation in my life better by just being a good friend and caring for the other person and turning my tears into laughter. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Kathy O'Neil Shea
