Bryan Beale Obituary

Bryan Norman Beale Of Tacoma, WA, died unexpectedly at the age of 37 on April 30, 2011. Bryan had no barriers or prejudices when making connections and was accepting of others no matter what their differences were. Once you were friends with Bryan, you were friends for life. Bryan started playing the trumpet at an early age and continued throughout his life, ending with the Tacoma Concert Band. Bryan attended the University of Puget Sound and earned his BA degree in 1995 and later earned his MA degree from the U of W. He taught at Central Kitsap J.H. in Silverdale, WA and served as Assistant Principal at Drum Intermediate in University Place, WA. It was Bryan's job to hold students accountable for their actions, but they also knew they would be treated with respect, which proved he genuinely cared about them and their families. Students and adults found him approachable and a person with great integrity who would do his best to be of help to all. Bryan's smiles, jokes, and overall enthusiasm for life will be missed. Bryan's many interests & talents earned him the nickname Renaissance Man. His legacy has left a lasting impact on everyone he met and he will not soon be forgotten. He is sorely missed by his loving parents, Norma and Gordon Beale of Camas, WA and his uncle, Alan Beale, aunt and uncle, Elaine and Tim Hill, and cousins Lisa (Jeff) Koetz, and Kevin (Meghan) Hill, all of Portland, OR. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 - 27th St. West, Tacoma, WA, reception immediately following. Contributions may be made in Bryan's name at any US Bank branch for the Bryan N. Beale Memorial Scholarship Fund, established to support students of the arts.

Many years ago in a country of Moberly,MO I remember sitting in Gordy and Norma Jean's kitchen, talking of pie safes and cross stiching and lo, from the basement emerged the dragon's call, Bryan had awakened and started blowing on a trumpet. Ernie the cat gave the sound a twitch of his tail and his parents lept into action, closing as many doors as possible between us and Bryan giving the trumpet the beating of it's life. " He really Loves to do that", they winced.
I never got to hear him play his trumpet after wards, much to my regret. I am happy in knowing his heart and his music was loved by so many people, but oh, how I miss him now.
Dearest Norma Jean and Gordy, my heart cries for your loss.

The guest book picture Vito posted is how I remember Bryan when we were in band. He was a fantastic trumpet player and enjoyed helping others to succeed as well. My heart is sad because a school lost an inspirational teacher, principal, motivator, and friend and a family lost their heart. God be with all of the people that have suffered this tragic and untimely death.

I worked at CKJH for many years as the attendance secretary before moving next door to CKHS. Bryan was always smiling and positive students at CKJH yet quite the character with us secretaries. His boyish grin always made you think he was up to something and he usually was. Our daughter played the flute in his band class several years ago and remembers him as a very spirited teacher. Our son played football at CKJH and remembers how great the band sounded at the night games under Bryan's awesome direction. We had a wonderful celebration Friday night 5/6/11 with CKSD staff to honor Bryan. We raised our glasses, toasted to Bryan, watched some funny videos from CKJH, told stories, and laughed so hard at the many things he did. Many hearts ache right now and so many communities are affected by this huge loss. We loved him and will miss him terribly. Previous students who are now in college around the nation or working and those who are close to graduation here at CKHS have great memories of his fantastic teaching, marching in parades, pep assemblies and pranks. Many parents have stopped by and express their sorrow as their kids had Mr. Beale while at CKJH. They mourn his loss and can't believe he's gone. Bryan will always be a CKJH Cub in our hearts. We are praying for Mr. & Mrs. Beale and family. Rich, Patty, Maria & Richie Aflleje.

Bryan, your upbeat personality and musical abilities will be missed. Some of my most memorable experiences in band and cross country are of you. When asked if you want to join the choir or play a harp or a trump, choose the trump.

I only met Mr. Beale once and it was through Drum Intermediate when he had to discipline my daughter for fighting. She learned a valuable lesson that day. She will remember forever the impact that Mr. Beale had on her life at Drum and we are grateful of his passion for the students. He will be sadly missed. Our prayers go out to his family.

I served with Bryan on the Tacoma Concert Band Board of Directors. He was well liked and respected. I will miss his good nature, teasing ways, and common sense perspective.
