CLARA BEERS

Clara Abney Beers Clara was released on March 20, 2011 from her earthly bonds to rejoin her family members who preceded her into God's loving arms after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born to Carroll Steadman and Elza Kohl on Oct. 20, 1928 at home in Tacoma. She was active with the South Hill Salvation Army, the Lighthouse Senior Center, Helping Hands, Red Hat Society, and the Portland Avenue Evangelical Free Church. Clara loved gardening, singing, and shopping. She was preceded in death by her siblings Ray Steadman, Vernon Steadman, Alice Massey, Ethel Steadman, and infant girl Abney, her first husband Huston Abney, and her second husband John R. Beers. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Pauline Foister of Puyallup and Susan Draeger (Robert)Eof Apex, NC, stepsons Earl Abney (Thea) of St. George, Utah and Wayne Beers (Maureen) of McLean, VA, stepdaughter Bernice (Ron) Scarim, McCleary, WA, cousin Julia Steadman of Tacoma, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, also special friend and singing partner Andrew LaBrecque. Viewing will be Thurs., March 24, 2011, 10:00AM-1:45PM at Hill Funeral Home in Puyallup, 253-845-1172. Memorial service will be Sat., March 26, 2011 11:30AM, at Portland Avenue Evangelical Free Church, 6402 Portland Ave., Tacoma.
