Derek,
A month has passed and I miss you just the same. I wish we had more time, we had so many years ahead of us, so many more things to do. I reflect on summer 2010 and I think that was one of the best summers because I was with my family for most of it and I will cherish that. I love you Derek, I never told you but I know you know that now! We will be here for Maddi and continue to love her as you had always. Love, Your Sister Forever

Derek, you were more then a cousin, you were like a brother to me growing up. You always cheered me on with wrestling, baseball, and anything I did. Thank you for all the great times we had. I wish I could have seen you more when I was home on leave but I know you will be with me watching over me even when I'm fighting for our country. Love you man. Love, Justin

I saw beautiful Madison the other day I received a wonderful hug and when I looked at her I saw Derek. My favorit memory is when Stephy secretly recorded Derek singing to her wrappped in a Hello Kitty Blanket. When I saw that video I thought what a big cute teddy bear and it brought me smiles. This loss is hard to bear, and we ask ourselfs why?. I pray that knowing Derek is watching over all he loved and the many wonderful memories that each of us have will help heal the broken hearts. I believe that life on earth is just the beginning of our journey there is hope in this message. Written with love, Suzan

To the family, my deepest sorrows.. I too lost my daughter Ashley, only 22yrs old two days before you lost derek. On 2/18, she crossed the center line and hit a truck. She was texting and driving. I and my daughter met Dereck at the Bozo tournament in Orting in August. As my daughter would have said, "the locals" in orting were so welcoming to us out of towners and we had a great time. Again, my family to yours, this is a traggic to lose a child and I can honestly say I know what you are going through. Ashley is on facebook under Ashley Jones... She loved Orting. I was looking up the funeral arrangements for my distant cousin Derek Boyd, who passed last Wednesday 9th March and came across your article. I am very sorry for your loss, but found it bizzarre that 2 Derek Boyds have passed within 3 days of each other?! I am living in the UK, and our Derek lived in Margate, Kent, England.

Never in a million years would I have ever thought such a tragedy could ever happen to us. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful family! It’s wonderful how we can all come together and be there for support for one another! My Dad and our Family loved Derek. I would like to think my Dad was there to greet him and is starting a football team. One of the last things my Dad said was that it was amazing; beautiful horses running through the meadow.
