Donald Glover Obituary

Donald Sheldon Glover Age 90, beloved husband of Lydia M. Glover, died March 27, 2011, at home in Spokane WA, surrounded by his loving family. Don Glover, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, started his 30-year career while attending college at Washington State University in Pullman, becoming a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. In China, under Gen. Claire Chennault, he was part of the 75th Fighter Squadron, later known as the "Flying Tigers". He flew 82 missions in China in P-40s. His favorite plane was the F-86. He last flew the F-102. Don's grandfather, Eli Sheldon Glover, brought his family to the Washington Territory in 1872. As a child during the Depression Donald lived along the Skeena River in Usk, Canada. Our father was an avid fisherman, a 34-year Palm Springs "Snowbird", a man of strong integrity and unlimited kindness. His wife and daughters will love and miss him forever. Born in Tacoma, at St. Joseph's Hospital on March 1, 1921, Don was the son of Sheldon Latta Glover and Edith Erika Johnson Glover of Olympia. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lydia, four daughters, Shelley Arbogast (Roy) of Augusta, GA, Dorrie Gallagher (Timothy) of Spokane, Linda Glover of Seattle, and Nickie Jostol (Barry) of Seattle, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his sister, Barbara Jean ("Babs") Turner of Pendleton, OR. A memorial service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Maple Valley, Washington on May 20th 2011, at 1:30 p.m.

I want to express my deepest sympathies for your loss of your "Tiger." My Dad was a "Tiger" also and part of the same group of unique gentlemen. It is a shame we are losing the generation who gave so much for us to enjoy what we have now.
