Doreen Barrett Obituary

Doreen R. Barrett After a wonderful and fulfilling life, Doreen R Barrett passed away quietly at her home in Yelm, Washington on May 15, 2011. Born September 03, 1932 in Price, Utah. Graduating from Lincoln High School in 1951. She met her husband-to-be in their senior year, and the two married in the summer of 1952. They moved to Seattle as William pursued his professional education. Doreen assisted in supporting their young family as a secretary at Boeing. Three sons were born in Seattle during the 7 years, and then they moved to Tacoma, where the first daughter was born. Tacoma was home for the next 10 years. Pursuing additional education for William in 1969 would take the family to New Jersey, where they would add the last child, a daughter. After 2 years of educational training they returned to Tacoma, where they would make their home until 1982, when they made a decision to move to Yelm, Washington. Doreen and her daughters would eventually come to be very involved in showing horses and could often be seen in the motor home pulling their horse trailer up or down the highways to participate in horse shows from Oregon to Canada. Doreen was a very talented woman with her tastes running from the many beautiful oil paintings she created, to amazing stained glass panels and extended talents into the theatrical arts. While she had a beautiful soprano voice, she preferred the director's chair to the stage. She was probably best known for her stage productions for the LDS Church. All together she produced 7 plays, most inspiring a love and dedication to her Savior and His Gospel by all those who viewed these productions. Doreen is survived by her husband Dr. William J. Barrett, her brother Kay Johnson, her children Dr. W. Joseph Barrett, Bradley Barrett, Robert Barrett, Deneen Barrett Rothfields, and Danae Leavitt. She is also survived by her 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Memorial service Sat., 21st May, 2011, 11 AM. Viewing 10 AM, at LDS Chapel, 10423 Clark Rd SE, Yelm.
