Dorothy Pelton Obituary

Dorothy Appleton Pelton Surrounded by family and beloved friends, Dorothy Appleton Pelton passed away April 13, 2011. Born in Halifax, England on May 17, 1926, Dorothy was active in the Women's Land Army, where she met and married an US Army Air Corpsman, Anton Uno Pelton, in 1945. After the war, Dorothy crossed the Atlantic in 1947 and settled into American life in Tacoma, WA. Survived by her sons, Andrew, Richard and Paul, she will be greatly missed by her daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Anton, son David, sister Irene, and brother, 'our' Jim. Dorothy was an avid acrylic and oil painter. She had a passion for knitting, crafting, and animals. She was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. We take comfort that she is resting now in a new body. "Come to me all you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28. A special thanks to the caring staff at Franciscan Hospice House who loved our family and our Dory so well. Memorial service to be held at 2pm on Sunday, at Tacoma South Side Seventh Day Adventist Church, 230 S. 94th St.

My condolances to the family of the loss of your mother. I had the privelage of knowing Rich and cannot remember the name of the young woman he married before moving onward and upward towards owning his own franchises. I pray the Lord has blessed the lives of all you know for you were a gift to many of us in those years.
God Bless Rich and family.

Miss Dorothy~I am such a better person for having had you in my life, and the world is a better place for having been graced with your kind heart and warm smile. You always had a story for everything--and your wisdom made me a stronger woman. Thank you for loving me unconditionally, even though I wasn't your blood granddaughter. You helped me through some tough times. You will truly be missed by this world. I hope that I can live up to your amazing character and huge heart in my life. I love you.

My mother Pauline Robertson was a friend of Dory's. It has been a few years since my mom has passed away, but I believe they met at Second Wind a program that was sponsored by PLU where they took creative writing, and painting classes together. I remember her as very warm and kind person and my mom thought of her as a very special friend. My regards to the family,

I met Mrs. Pelton when she worked in the HOSTS program at Spanaway Elementary. She enjoyed helping children learn to read. She touched the lives of many people and was a pleasure to know. I have often thought of her over the years and have many fond memories.

This is Karen (Cummings) who lived next door to you on John's Road. Your Mom was a wonderful person. I still have one of the paintings she did for my mom hanging in my living room. My heart goes out to you Richard and Paul during this difficult time.
