Gene was one of my favorite people I spent alot of time with him one year and everyday was an adventure. He helped move a turkey in front of his truck, what a ride. I smile when I think of my friend, and all he helped me with, What a wit, and the best laugh (giggle ever). I swear the man could eat anything and enjoy it. Love you Gene, you will always be in my good memories. What a hoot we had! Now you get to entertain the angels.

Gene was one of the most colorful people from the peninsula and we all have our memories like when his hair was green and the judge dismissed the charges. He wrote from his soul and told like he seen it. His postings were always a pleasure and his eulogies appropiate say hello to Yankee for us old times that have known you forever RIP

We just want to thank everyone who came to pay their respects to Dad. Whether you loved him or you hated him, either way you knew exactly how he felt about ANY ISSUE at the time as his poems were usually taped to the outside of any window of a business that would let him express his views.

Our sincerest sympathies go out to Rich and Karie Battell and the Battell family. The passing of a parent is difficult and you are doing a wonderful and selfless job. Your attention and respect honors your father's memory and sends him off like a statesman. Love to you and farewell to Eugene Battell.

Gene was a distinctive and respected spokesman for the common man, through the poetry he wrote and distributed freely on the Key Peninsula over the years. Our lives will be poorer with his passing. He was unique and independent, a true character. Our sympathies to his family in your loss.

R.I.P. Gene Battell. Even though I have not seen him in a few years, his name brings to mind a man with a Passion for informing folks in hopes of a better life .He was a memorable person because of the conviction of his words and the passion he added to them. : )

I met you back in the 70's when you used to come into my parents Cafe (Jerry's Cafe & Lounge) in Key Center. I'll remember you for all the poems you wrote and how you carried them around with you. I always chuckled because you'd write them on whatever scraps of paper you could find at the moment you took pen to paper. R.I.P. Gene.
