Eugene Boggess Obituary

Eugene Hughes Boggess Jr. Passed away peacefully 1/19/2011 at the age of 84 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Mills, WY 3/19/1926 and grew up in Crow Agency, MT. In 1944, upon graduation from high school, he served in the Navy on the Island of Oahu, HI. After his discharge from the Navy he attended Rocky Mountain College, earning a bachelor's degree in Social Studies. While attending college he took voice lessons and sang in the college choir, a mixed quartette, and often did solo work. Feeling God's call into full-time ministry, he attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, KS, earning a master's degree in Theology. While in seminary he met and married his life partner Nellie Yantz. During his lifetime he served as Senior Pastor to Mount Olive Baptist Church (MO), First Community Baptist Church (MT), Pleasant Valley Community Baptist Church (OR), First Baptist Church (Puyallup, WA), Church of the Living Way (Puyallup, WA), and in his retirement years as Pastor to the Seniors at Celebration Center (Puyallup, WA). He loved his family, spending time at Cannon Beach, visiting the Grand Canyon, caring for the various members of his congregations, learning, and reading. He will be remembered as a servant of God, a man of integrity, and a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Nellie Boggess, daughters Kathie Lybecker and Janelle McCoy, and grandchildren Joshua McCoy, Charlie, Dewey and Lacey Lybecker. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, 1/29/2011 at 11 AM at Celebration Center Church, 13603 86th Ave. E., Puyallup, WA 98373. In his memory the family suggests making a donation to ZLife Youth Outreach at PO Box 73848, Puyallup, WA 98373.

We attended Celebration Center with Gene and Nellie and found Gene to be a loving, thoughtful and caring man. He was a perfect reflection of our Lord and an example on how to live a Christian Life. He is in Heaven now but will be missed deeply. Our prayers are with Nellie and family. The Hiebs, Tacoma, Wa. (currently in Indio, Ca.)

Gene was such a blessing to me and my family. His smile illuminated the room and showed Christ's Love. I will miss my special cousin greatly. You are in my prayers and thoughts. Love, Cindy Whiteman

It’s been many years since I met “Gene”. He assisted at my marriage to Nellie’s sister, Irene. I remember his smile: so wide it nearly reached his ears. Life can be long, satisfying and bumpy; but significant people are its milestones. Nellie and the girls: cherish his memory, a wonderful father, a compassionate husband and one of His pastors.

Aunt Nellie, Kathie, and Janelle,

It is times like these that I wish even more that CT and WA were not so far away from each other. That way we could be there in person instead of just in spirit and in prayer.

Uncle Gene's gentle voice, warm smile, caring nature, and tremendous faith made him a very special person. And a very special uncle.

We met Gene and Nellie at Celebration Center and spent many wonderful time and fellowship with them and other seniors. We are at our home in Indio, CA and will not be at the memorial service. But we know he is in a better place now. Blessings to Nellie and the extended family.

He was a good man. I can remember when I was in jr. high at Aylen Janelle took me to find an azalea for my mom for mother's day --- I didn't have enough money, but her father could see how much I wanted it for my mom so he sold it to me for what I had. I will never forget that he was such a generous man.
