FLORENCE VEKICH Obituary

Florence Beverly Vekich Nov 26, 1917~March 16 2011 Florence grew up as an Olympic Peninsula native moving from the Deppiesse family homestead near Ozette Lake to Port Townsend where she graduated from high school in the class of 1936. In 1942, Florence married Sgt John D. Vekich in the Chapel at Fort Worden. Her husband, the love of her life, preceded her in 2008. Florence embarked on the first of her several careers after high school, Federal Civil Service, retiring in 1970. But Florence discovered that retirement was not for her just yet. So she joined Concrete Technology Corporation in Tacoma and worked another 15 years as the Executive Secretary there. Florence loved what she did and cherished the memory of many mentors who respected and encouraged her. Florence in turn mentored many and was always supportive of others, quick to extend a helping hand or encouragement. Florence specified that there be no viewing or memorial service. She rejoins her husband at Tahoma National Cemetery. Florence stated that being remembered in the prayers of family, friends, and others was the most meaningful memorial she could ever receive. For those feeling compelled to offer more than their prayers, Florence was most passionate about USO programs assisting our troops, specifically "Wounded Warriors" and "Operation Phone Home". Florence is survived by her son John D. Vekich II and his wife Carol, residing in Issaquah.
