HELEN SWINK Obituary

Helen Swink Eleanor Mabel Monteath was born August 25, 1916 in Poplar, London, England to James and Hannah Monteath. She married Leonard Vaughan in Poplar and they had one son. Len, a RAF Navigator, was killed in WWII at the age of 28. Following the war, Helen moved to the USA to marry Fred Swink of Nebraska, and they had two daughters. The Swinks lived in the Sumner Valley from 1951 to 1980, where they had a berry farm. When Fred retired, they moved to a home they built in Yelm, and lived there for 24 years. Helen relocated to Puyallup in 2004. She was a former member of Sumner Methodist Church, and a member of Roy Community Church. Helen is survived by her children Alan Vaughan (Marty) of Puyallup, Karen Collins (Gary) of Edgewood, and Patricia Swink and her fianc Larry Scott of Yelm, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husbands, Len Vaughan and Fred Swink, her sister Margaret Coppin, and brother Jimmy Montieth, both in England. Viewing is Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, 4-8PM, and funeral service is Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, 1:00PM, all at Powers Sumner Funeral Home. Private entombment will be at Sumner City Cemetery.
