Matt's Grandpa, Howard, coined the phrase, "Don't even go there Mary Lou." I always got a kick out of him saying that (and I made that very evident). I enjoyed hearing the playful banter between him and Mary Lou, it reminded me of my own family. In fact, Howie made me feel part of the family when, at the lake property, a family picture was being taken, I respectfully stood out of it, Howard responded to that action by saying, "Get back in here, you're part of the family now." He had a way of making people feel special and included. In addition to that, he had a wicked sense of humor, even in his last days. I always ended up giggling at the Hull household or when they came down to Portland to visit. I especially loved his stories about his grandson, Matt. I could tell one of his all time favorite stories was when he was able to potty train Matt. Just like what was said at his memorial service, Howard really did light up when he was around family and when he spoke of them, it was very neat to see.
Howard, Matt really wanted you to see us get married. I hope you watch down on us when we do that eventually. You are a very special man and I can see a lot of you in Matt, thank you for passing on that genuine kindness, light heartedness, and sense of humor to him. I wish I could of known you longer, but I will always cherish the memories I have of you. Rest in Peace and much love.
