JOSEPH LEITZINGER Obituary

Joseph Leo Leitzinger A gentle man, Joseph Leo Leitzinger died January 12, 2011. Son of A.E. and Mary Leitzinger was born in Clearfield, PA on October 13, 1930. He attended State College High School where he met his future wife, Robin Brunner. He graduated from Penn State as a Civil Engineer in June of 1952. That same month, Joe and Robin married and left for California to begin their lifelong adventure together. After three years in California working for Lockheed, the California State Water Resource Division and Pond Engineering, he moved the family to Tacoma to work for the American Plywood Association. EStarting in the Engineering Section, he became Vice President of Public Affairs. Joe loved Tacoma and was an active member of the community.EHe was a board member of United Way, Municipal League of Tacoma and Bellarmine Preparatory High School. He was also President of the Tacoma Lawn Tennis Club and Chairman of Tacoma's Design for Progress, a member of Gyro and St. Patrick's Church. In 1972, Joe became Vice President of Public Affairs at Simpson Timber Company inESeattle.EWhile in Seattle, he belonged to Rotary and served on the Boards of the Pacific Science Center, Virgina Mason Medical Clinic,EHeritage College, The Forest History Society and Washington Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation.E He missed Tacoma, so upon retirement in 1993 he moved back home. Joe was devoted to his beloved Robin for nearly 60 years. Joe and Robin were blessed with four wonderful children, Jeffrey (Janet Herald), Gregory (Chris Finnegan), Tuck (Linda Truckey), and Hans (Sheila Critch), all of whom married and started families of their own. He had seven grandchildren, Eric, Megan,EErin, Joey, Henry, Emma, and Will. He greatly loved his children, their wives, and his grandchildren and was much loved by them.

Dear Robin,

It has been so long since the heady days of APA and Simpson and the great value I put on my relationship with Joe.

He was a great guy and an even better friend,and I only wish we had been able to see him more often in the later years.

I knew Joe personally for only a few years when I came to the Forest History Society but always enjoyed our conversations. He was a wonderful supporter of the Society having been a member for 30 years. Extending deep and heartfelt sympathy. He will be remembered.
