LOUISE AULERICH Obituary

Louise Schiffbauer Abeel Aulerich Shifty Louise died February 11, 2011 in Gig Harbor. The daughter of Paul P. Schiffbauer and Lela A. Manke, she was born in Tacoma in 1924. She attended Grant, Jason Lee, and was a proud 1942 graduate of Stadium High School. She attended WSC (WSU) before marrying her high school sweetheart, John H. Abeel. In 1949, with help from architect Silas Nelson, Louise designed the family home that she and John built on Huson Drive. She and John started the excavating company, Abeel the Digger. Their first piece of equipment was a WWII surplus jeep with a "John" designed loader on the front. Not only was Louise the bookkeeper, but she also learned how to rebuild engines. She was a terrific cook, seamstress, gardener, and an eager traveler. Later Louise married Robert G. J. Aulerich. She and Bob enjoyed traveling together. Louise was predeceased by her brother Robert (at age 7), both husbands, a stillborn son, Garrett, her granddaughter Tessa Abeel-Casey, and her step-son Edward. She leaves behind children Candis A. Carbone, Merry E. Abeel, John P. Abeel, grandchildren Michael Larson, Kimberly Larson, Allondra Stevens, Gabriel Casey, and Jarret Abeel, and her great-granddaughters Mackenzie and Nicole Larson. Also surviving her are stepchildren Toni, Merri, and Melissa. She is also survived by first cousins Lennard Manke, Dean Dingerson, and Art (Skip) Manke. Her two closest friends dating back to high school, Marian Brewsaugh Murphy and Kathleen Cleary Browne, predeceased her. Louise loved cats, cashmere, and of course her family. Her children credit her and their father with instilling in them a strong work ethic and teaching them tolerance and acceptance of people of all cultures and backgrounds. At Louise's request there will be no memorial service.

My condolences to all of Louise's family. I remember as a child, she was an amazing woman, and complimented my grandfather, Bob in every fashion. My fondest memory of her would be how she loved to entertain me and my sister (she let us get away with anything!). For that alone, visiting her and my grandfather was such a treat! She will be missed dearly but memories of her will live on..

The loss of Louise or "Shifty" is so big in my heart. I have been your friend and the friend of the Abeel kids since I was in 4th grade. To have you as my other mom has given me memories I will never forget. I will miss you forever.

P.S. can you die your hair green again?
