Mary Allen Obituary

Mary Genevieve (McCready) Allen Passed away at the age of 87 on April 26, 2011 at the Lutheran Home in Tacoma, Washington. Genny was born November 14, 1923 in Rochester, Washington to Jess and Jean McCready. She attended public schools and graduated from Centralia High School in 1942. She married Bill Allen in Centralia on August 29, 1942 and had 2 children, Linda (Allen) Nyland and Tom Allen. They moved to California in 1951, and eventually retired to their dream home on Bradford Island on the Sacramento River Delta. After Bill's death in 1985, Genny moved to University Place, Washington to be near her daughter Linda. In 1991 she was married to Dick Rhea, also of University Place. Genny loved to be with family, and spent many of her vacations visiting extended family. She was known throughout her community as generous, kind, sweet-natured person, and was always thinking of other people; her thoughtfulness often took shape in quilts, knitted goods and hats for babies, as well as volunteer activities through her church. She was well-loved by her many friends at the University Place Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed playing cards and socializing with them. She was preceded in death by her husbands Bill Allen and Dick Rhea, brothers Glenn (Betty Lou) and Jess (Bev) McCready, sister Betty (Ernie) Dickason, and son Tom (Sandy) Allen. Her brother Bob (Nancy) McCready, daughter Linda (Dennis) Nyland, 5 grandchildren, Bill (Meg), Gerrit (Sarah), Tom (Tammara), Meghan, and David (Paula), and 7 great-grandchildren survive her. A memorial service will be held at University Place Presbyterian Church Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 1pm. A family graveside memorial will be in Centralia where she will be buried next to her husband Bill. Donations only to the University Place Presbyterian Church in her name.
