NICHOLAS TURNER Obituary

Nicholas Eugene Jason Turner March 7, 1985 - March 7, 2011 After a tremendous fight to stay here for his son, Nick was unable to overcome the injuries he suffered in a tragic accident. With his family by his side he passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, his 26th birthday. Nick was proud and honored to be an organ donor. Nick considered his son Gavin to be his single greatest achievement in life. Nick answered the challenge of single parenthood head-on, and instinctively attained the wisest and warmest style of parenting we have yet seen. The bond between Nick and Gavin was instant and will remain with Gavin forever. Nick graduated from Curtis High School in 2003. He was a passionate reader of all genres, an outstanding soccer player and gifted long-distance runner. Next to family, his biggest passion was his work and he loved the entire Olympic Eagle family. While they have continually told us how Nick surpassed their expectations, and what joy he and Gavin brought to them, we can't thank them enough for the honorable and respectful way they have always treated Nick and for the compassion they are showing him and his family now. Nick is survived by his son Gavin, his parents Dan and Wendy, his siblings Ryan and Bree, grandfather Mike, his second dad, Al Williams, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends. We have been overwhelmed and are forever grateful for the love and support given to us by the Olympic Eagle, Sunset Primary, UP School District and K & L Dist. families, along with our treasured family and friends. Your love is carrying us through this tragic time. Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the University Place Presbyterian Church, 8101 27th Street West. Reception following at the Landmark Convention Center, 47 St. Helens Ave, Tacoma.

Nick,
Big day today for your son Gavin, turning 18 today and graduates in 6 days. What a journey. And along the way, your memory continues to be as strong as it has ever been. Gavin has worked hard to get through High School and he has a very bright and wonderful future ahead of him. He is so much like you!! Today will be about the 4th celebration we have had for him. He will always have our support and love. Just as I promised you. Love you and miss you.

Nick, 14th Christmas without you being here. It was a good day. We had the family over for dinner, a lot of great presents, laughs and family time. Holidays are tough, but what I always tell Gavin is that you are always looking down on us and there are so many times when we can feel you right here with us. We miss your smile, your love of life and know we were so very lucky to have you with us as long as we did. Merry Christmas son. We love you!!

Nick, it was a busy summer. Gavin has started his Senior year and is starting to make plans for after he graduates. He is looking at a few different options and is setting himself up really well for a great career. He misses you a lot and I want you to know, he is getting all the support he could ever need. All of us miss you and sometimes it is just so much tougher than others. Today is one of those days for me. I could go on, but won´t. I miss you, I love you and I promise that Gavin will always be taken care of.

Love,

Dad

Hi Nicky,
I saw one of Bree’s Facebook posts, and it got me thinking of you. I think of you often, so I’m not sure what brought me to this page tonight, but I am tragically and beautifully touched by the messages of remembrance I’ve seen here. It is a testament to the legacy you’ve left behind. I think of you every time I drive past your parents’ house, or see your bench at the park. Or the cemetery. I think of you when I drive past Cheers, or that curve on Highway 16. I remember the last time I saw you at Emerald Downs, and the way you made me squeal when you picked me up in a bear hug and spun me around. I can still hear your laugh. I wonder about Gavin and if he has become the same kind of goofy and fun-loving young man that you were. I miss you. I hope that you are resting easy, and that time has softened the hurt for your sweet family. Take care, my friend.
Love and hugs

Hey Nick, just about New Years. Another year without you physically here, but the memory of you is as strong as ever. Gavin has so many of your traits, it´s just unbelievable. He´s a great young man and we are so very proud of him. We are all doing well, Bree´s kids are growing up fast and life just keeps on moving. I love you, I miss you and I truly would do anything to have you back. Keep watching over Gavin and always know we are always going to help him remember you.

Thinking of you today old friend and wanted to post it here. I know how special it is for family and friends to see these. I visit my mother's page often, who thought the world of you, when I'm feeling strong. I find myself reminiscing often and it brings me laughter and joy. I can only hope my daughter Aurora, who is 2 1/2 now, can find friendships in life as we did.

Cheers Brother and I'll see you on flip side.

All my best and Love to you and your son Gavin, Dan and Wendy , and family.

Dan/Wendy - Would love to catch up someday we are visiting Washington. It would be so great to see you both.

Hey Nick, 38 today. Twelve years later & I miss you more than ever. I have a hard time watching Gavin grow up & knowing how much he misses you & how much fun you two had together. We all got together on Sunday, had dinner together & of course had some good laughs about you. I went back & looked at all the comments on this page & it helped me remember how many people loved you & how many people you impacted. I think about you everyday & miss you more than you could ever imagine. Gavin is doing really well, he is safe & more importantly, he is the kindest person you could ever know. We love you

Hi Nick, Father´s Day 2022. We had a great day. Entire family got together and had a really nice dinner out. Gavin is now on summer break and we are going to give him a week to relax. He did a really good job in 9th grade and is looking forward to his Sophomore year. I think this will be the summer he passes me in height. He really loved ROTC and is going to take it again next year. We think he might make it a career. We are staying busy and I have to say, I have really felt you being around the last few weeks. You know this, but I will say it as I always do, we miss you so much and I would give or do anything to have you here will all of us. I love you! Happy Father´s Day son.

Nick, it´s the day after Christmas. We had everyone at our house and had a fantastic time. The year is coming to a close and it´s hard to believe this is going to be the 10th New Years without you. We ALL miss you so very much. Bree has made sure that Kash & Gianna know who their Uncle Nicky is and your son, Gavin, reminds us of you every day. He is just a fantastic young man, growing so quickly and even though he is 14, at the age where a lot of kids go sideways, he is staying focused and continuing to be the kind, loving person he has always been. He is fiercely loyal and sticks up for the underdog, just like you always did. He does not give in to peer pressure and we know he will continue to be successful in life. So, I will end with this. We know we have a great family and we know that we are very lucky to have our health and many good friends. But, at the end of the day, we aren´t complete without you here. We love you, we miss you and we always remember you!!

Nick, a little late this year in sending you a message. What a crazy year 2020 was. Have never seen anything like it and hope the madness ends soon! The Holidays were good. We spent time with Ryan, Bree & Kurtis and her kids. Gavin is into tanks. He knows about all different types and can give you specific specs if you ask him. He is very bright. I’ve said this before, but it is amazing how much he looks like you. Tall and thin. He did track this year and is a really good long jumper. Hoping he can turn out in 9th grade.
Like everyone else we have been stuck at home a lot. And because of that, I’ve probably thought of you and missed you this year more than any other. I know that everyone else has too. You were and always will be a fantastic son, brother and father.

Hi Nick, getting close to Fathers Day. Not my favorite day of the year. Really miss you a lot. Gavin graduated from 7th grade today. You would be so proud of who he is!! He did very well in school and is excited to go to the Junior High next year. He is growing really fast and if he grows as much as last year, I think he may be as tall as me by the end of 8th grade. Everyone is doing well, but we all sure miss your smile and how you made us all laugh. I will be out to see you on Sunday. I love you.

Thinking of you Nick....hope you are having a good time up there . Meanwhile we keep getting older here. Things are good for me, John is retired, and we are thinking of traveling. Jennifer is married, and has two little girls, she is still working in the casino business. Her and her husband came and helped us out when my son Luke got married. We had the wedding in our yard. I now have a granddaughter , she will be three, how the time flies here. Another note I'd that they are still working on the construction for the I-5 to 16 interchange.... I am wondering if it will ever get done, and if it does, I think it will be antiquated... I think about you especially in that area. Keep watch over us, and keep smiling, you always had a great smile.

Hi Nick, celebrated your 35th birthday this past weekend! This was no doubt we felt you around us. We only did the family this year, planning a big party for next year. Gavin really misses you!! He is a carbon copy of you. Hes taller than Mom and Im starting to worry he is going to catch me pretty soon. He wants to run track next year and will do really well. His grades are good and he is the kindest person you could ever meet. Ive had a hard time lately myself missing you. Just cant seem to justify why. I never say why me, just cant justify losing you. We love you, we miss you and we think of you everyday.

Hey Nick, it's one of those nights. Been thinking about you a lot today. Mom & I had Kash and Gianna over today. Great kids. Your sister will always make sure they know you. And I'll tell you something, they love Gavin so much!! When you watch Gav with them it is just awesome. He has that same great ability with little ones that you had with him. He has so many of your traits. Can't believe he is in 7th grade. He is such a bright guy. I know you are as proud of him as we are. So,,, we miss the heck out of you. We know you are watching over all of us and we love you very much.

So thankful for this family and its circle of friends and loved ones. My faith has me knowing that one day we will all be together again. My infrequent days of doubt are when I smack myself upside the head and think of this family, this love, this bond that just cannot end here on this Earth. It is eternal and I count it as one of the the most beautiful things that I know.
Love you all!

Hi Nick, Fathers Day weekend. By far, my least favorite Holiday of the year. Been a tough year, we have missed you so much. Gavin will be done with school next week & on to the 6th grade. He is 100% you!! But the greatest thing about Gav is that he still remembers you & whenever he gets sad, you are the 1st person he wants. You guys had the greatest bond ever!! I sure don't like writing these, just hammers home you aren't here. You gave us all so many memories & so much love. We love you & miss you every day!

Hi Nick, 32 today. Had lunch with your sister and then Ryan stopped over for dinner. Bree had another baby. Little boy named Kash. Cute and full of life like Gianna. Gavin is doing great in 4th grade, is long and lean and can negotiate like you can't believe. Mom got tons of messages today and she misses you so much. We all do. As I have said before, we think about you every day. We love you, we miss you and you will always live on in our hearts and our memories.

June 20, 2015

Well, it's been 4 years. Tomorrow is Father's Day and I will miss you as much as I have the past 3. Gavin is fantastic, he reminds us of you in many ways and yet is truly his own person. He misses you every day, talks about his Daddy very often and still remembers all the fun you two had together!! So, we love you, we miss you and we will always be grateful that even though far to short, we were all so lucky to have had you in our lives. You were the best dad I have ever known.

Dan and Wendy: I had the opportunity to coach Nick in the Fircrest Soccer Club. I remember Nicks love of the game, his constant smile, his wonderful attitude, and his contribution to our team was above and beyond the call of duty. I fondly recall our conversations and the rides home after practice and or games. While I lost contact with Nick, I always thought fondly of him and knew he would develop into a wonderful human being and contribute to our community in ways that only Nick could do, I will miss all of these attributes of a young man whose life ended far too soon. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Although I didn't know Nicholas in his adult years I want to thank you Wendy and Dan for giving me the oppurtunity to know Nicholas in his very early years as choosing me as his babysitter when he was very young. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. You all are forever in my heart and I thank you again for letting my be a part of Nicholas, Bree and Ryans early years. May God give you the strength to stay strong during your times of grieving and pain and know he now holds Nicholas in his arms where he is forever safe.
