Oleph Fugate Obituary

Oleph Junior Fugate Ole was born in Sublette, MO on October 10th, 1934; he passed away in Centralia on April 26th, 2011 at the age of 76. Ole was raised by his grandparents Arthur and Sarah Fugate. During his youth, Ole spent his time riding horses and working on cars with his brother Lee. Ole joined the Navy at the age of 17, where he honorably served as a Communications Specialist assigned to the Naval Intelligence Department. During his four-year enlistment Ole served in Japan and Korea, was awarded two Purple Hearts, and met the love of his life, Ruth L. Wood, who was also serving in the Navy. Ole and Ruth were wed on May 21st, 1954. After their time in the Navy, the couple moved to the Seattle area, where Ole worked for the Boeing Company. In 1961 he became a steamfitter welder working out of Local 82 in Tacoma. Ole worked on many industrial projects, including the Centralia Steam Plant and oil field structures in Alaska. Ole was a forty-year member of the Freemason Terrestrial Lodge #288. A son, David Earl Fugate, one brother, and four sisters preceded Ole in death. He is survived by his wife Ruth, sons Daniel and Donald, daughter Donna, two grandsons, two step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.

Ole will always remain in my memories as an outstanding craftsman, one who was willing to mentor others with his skills and secrets of the trade.

Ole was a wonderful man. All of us loved him dearly at Providence Regional Cancer Center. He brought us joy and his humor on every visit. Thank you to the family for allowing us the privledge of knowing him for a short time.
