Philip F. Bartenetti Died peacefully at his home on March 2, 2011 at the age of 94. He was a self-described child of Calabrian immigrant parents, born in 1916 in Fairfax, Washington. As a young boy he moved to Tacoma where he lived for 60 years. He also lived in Soap Lake, Washington. He was proud of his Italian heritage and participated in Italian-American organizations. He was also active in community organizations such as the Bellarmine Boosters, and was a member of Elks Lodge 174 for 68 years. Along with his father and brother Frank, The Bartenetti's owned and operated two downtown Tacoma Barbershops, famous social gathering places for many Tacoma luminaries. A lover of a good turn of a phrase and quick wit, he could do Groucho Marx almost as well as Groucho himself. His friends and clients will attest to Phil's many escapades and practical jokes. His sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Phil proudly served in the U.S Navy aboard the carrier, USS Natoma Bay in the South Pacific from mid-1943 until the end of World War 11. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Doug Whipple of Mt. Vernon; and son and daughter-in-law, Philip W. and Marsha Bartenetti of Los Angeles. He has six grandchildren: Anthony Bartenetti, Gina Gamble, Bonnie Ellis, Andrea Blau, Amy Kingman, Alison Stewart Rodriguez and 10 great-grandchildren: Nick Bartenetti, Bridget Bartenetti, Anna Bartenetti, Jakeob Philip Blau, Austin Blau, Emma Gamble, Megan Gamble, Madeline Ellis, Jack Ellis, Ava Thosen. He was very close to his 6 nephews: John Bartenetti, Frank Bartenetti, David Bartenetti, Michael Callahan, James Callahan, Steven Callahan. Phil was pre-deceased by his wife of 56 years Betty Bartenetti. Services will be held this Saturday March 5th at Calvary Cemetery, Tacoma at 1PM. Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
